About the Winery Association of Nova Scotia

The Winery Association of Nova Scotia was formed in 2002 to represent the interests of wine producers in Nova Scotia, to serve as a voice for local industry and to promote the growth and development of Nova Scotia wines. As a first order of business, a set of quality standards was developed. The Nova Scotia Wine Standards (NSWS) were adopted by the association’s membership in the summer of 2005. The Wines of Nova Scotia logo was created as a symbol of quality which members may use on their wines that are made from 100% locally grown grapes and fruit, and that meet the NSWS. For more information on how to use the logo, view the Wines of Nova Scotia Graphic Identity Specifications.

The Nova Scotia wine industry has a climate and soil conditions that favour unique and distinctive grape varietals, an abundant supply of inexpensive land for potential development, unfettered by urban encroachment and strong transportation links and proximity to the large Eastern USA markets and Europe.

Building awareness of a Nova Scotia Wine Country and expanding distribution of the Wines of Nova Scotia will increase local market penetration. The Winery Association of Nova Scotia is committed to building excellence throughout every aspect of the industry, forging partnerships and attracting potential investors, ultimately catapulting the Wines of Nova Scotia onto the world stage.
